Anti-Semitism

Since the terrorist organisation Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023, the term anti-Semitism has once again become a prominent feature of public debate. However, anti-Semitism is not only being discussed in relation to this event and its consequences. Since autumn 2023, Jewish people around the world have been increasingly exposed to anti-Semitic hostility in all its forms. While Jews are directly affected by anti-Semitism in this way, others are labelled anti-Semitic in public discourse if, for example, they take a ‘critical view’ of Israel's position in the Middle East.
Anti-Semitism is not a new phenomenon. Hatred of Jewish people has a long (and painful) history, which has now resurfaced. The lecture series analyses the concept, history and forms of expression of anti-Semitism and gives a platform to experts from academia and society who present historical backgrounds, psychological and legal dimensions, ideological and political manifestations, and personal experiences.
The lecture series is organised in cooperation with the Gamaraal Foundation (www.last-swiss-holocaust-survivors.ch).
