Visiting Professorships
Visiting Professorships at the Chair of Literature and Cultural Studies
Following the closure of the full professorship for French language and literature in 2006, ETH Zurich has once again decided to give a strong presence to the various national languages and their associated cultures. Thus, the two visiting professorships for Italian and French literature and culture were created, which are filled each semester by an outstanding personality from the fields of literature and culture, history, art history or philosophy.
Since the spring semester 2010, a newly established visiting professorship for the subject area "Science of Judaism" has been added to the visiting professorships. The Visiting Professorship for Science and Judaism focuses more strongly on two research areas: on the one hand, general questions in the philosophy of science and history, and on the other hand, questions from the thematic spectrum of science in the field of tension between religion, culture and society, concretised in the far-reaching example of Judaism. Attention is focused on the formation and interpretation of science in Judaism since modern times and on the question of the scientific description of Judaism itself, as it has been established since the Enlightenment – namely in the paradigm of the science of Judaism - in the horizon of new scientific models.
