Visiting Professorship for Italian Literature and Culture

Tradition

Our guest professorship, the "Cattedra De Sanctis", is deeply rooted in the tradition of ETH. Italian Studies was introduced to ETH in the second half of the 19th century with the famous literary historian and critic Francesco De Sanctis. Since then, the subject of Italian as a national language has successfully held its place at ETH.

Today our chair is a dynamic institution, versatile and interdisciplinary, which is fully in line with the further development of the human sciences. The presence of the Italian national language in all its cultural and literary diversity enables ETH Zurich to honour the commitment of its federal character.
